Come bring your diesel mechanic skills to the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC). We are looking to add a Fleet Technician to our growing team! While working on this team you will see a wide variety of equipment including grinders, trucks, and heavy‑duty equipment. Job Overview

Performs skilled work in the maintenance and repair of SMSC‑owned light, medium, and heavy vehicles, and equipment, including Emergency Services vehicles. Performs preventative maintenance to ensure that all vehicles are safe and mechanically sound.

Responsibilities
  • Perform skilled diagnostic and repair procedures on light, medium, and heavy‑duty trucks, vans, buses, generators, small engine, and heavy equipment owned by the SMSC.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on SMSC‑owned vehicles, generators, heavy‑equipment, and small engine equipment.
  • Completes repair orders ensuring that work performed and parts used are documented.
  • Maintains shop areas and tools/diagnostic equipment to ensure safety and cleanliness.
  • Designs and fabricates tools and equipment.
  • Orders parts and supplies from authorized dealers.
  • May direct the activities of the Fleet Cleaning Specialist.
  • Plows snow. Driving is an essential function of this job. In the event driving is required, employees must adhere to the driving standards determined by the SMSC.
Requirements
  • Technical school graduate with an automotive or truck degree, or 4 years of experience in an automotive or truck repair facility.
  • High School graduate or GED.
  • Specialized knowledge of various types of vehicle diagnostic testing and programming tools used in vehicle repair and maintenance.
  • Valid D driver’s license required upon hire.
  • Class A Driver’s License Required – training provided by SMSC within 1 year of hire.
  • Industrial Truck Driving permit may be required (forklift) with training available.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of small engine repair.
  • Proficiency in maintaining safety while handling potential fumes, chemicals, odors, and/or noise.
  • Has the physical abilities to perform the required job duties with or without accommodations, including on feet 75% of time.
  • Capacity to handle and lift up to 75 lbs. as needed.
  • Ability to move in a variety of motions including bending, squatting, crawling, kneeling, twisting, pulling, and/ or pushing.
