About the role

The Technical Officer plays a vital role in safeguarding Tasmania’s primary industries, native fauna, and animal welfare.

You will provide reliable, high-quality technical support within a NATA-accredited laboratory operating under ISO 17025. This is a hands-on laboratory role where accuracy, quality and teamwork are essential. You will work as part of a skilled scientific team, contributing to the preparation of microbiological media, laboratory reagents and materials, routine testing, quality systems, and emergency animal disease preparedness in an environment that supports learning, professionalism and continuous improvement.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly capable individual that excels in a dynamic and often fast-paced work environment.

Our ideal candidate has
  • Laboratory skills, with the ability to follow established procedures accurately and consistently.
  • Previous experience in the manufacture of laboratory media.
  • Strong attention to detail, with a commitment to quality, accuracy and data integrity.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and manage competing workloads in a time-critical setting.
  • A certificate III or IV in Laboratory Skills, or equivalent qualification.
We offer
  • Permanent employment within a specialist government laboratory.
  • Meaningful work supporting animal health, biosecurity and Tasmania’s primary industries.
  • Professional development opportunities to build technical laboratory skills in an accredited environment.
  • A collaborative, supportive and professional team culture.
  • Work-life balance with access to exceptional recreation, adventure, and lifestyle opportunities in Launceston.
