Primary
Purpose:
Perform minor and major mechanical repairs to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of district vehicles. Complete assigned projects in accordance with established procedures and safety standards.
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Clear and valid Texas commercial driver’s license (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements or ability to obtain one within six weeks of employment
- ASE certification(s) preferred
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
- Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs with general supervision
- Skill in operating diagnostic and repair equipment
- Knowledge of gasoline and diesel engine repair, electrical systems, brake systems (including air brakes), suspension, and drivetrain components
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, policies, and procedures
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and vehicle components
- Ability to operate school buses and other district vehicles safely
Other Requirements:
- Must be at least 20 years of age
- Possess a safe driving record
- Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). and drug testing requirements and annual physical examination
Experience:
- Minimum of two years of experience as mechanic, preferred
Citizenship, residency or work visa required

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
Equipment Used: Automotive diagnostic equipment, wheel balancing and tire repairing equipment, hand and power tools, drill, drill press, grinder, air-powered tools, welding torch, torque wrench, jack and vehicle lifts, school buses, and other district vehicles.
Working Conditions:
Frequent walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Work outside and inside around moving vehicles, and mechanical equipment. Exposure to varying weather conditions, dampness, humidity, toxic chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline, and diesel fuel.
