Bookkeeper/ Accounting Clerk
Darrow Everett LLP is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accounting Clerk to join the firm’s accounting team. The Accounting Clerk will assist with a variety of accounting and clerical tasks related to the preparation and maintenance of financial records. This position supports day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, bank and credit card reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
This role is critical to ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of the firm’s financial operations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, solid organizational skills, and prior experience in an accounting environment. Professionalism and a courteous approach when working with colleagues, clients, and vendors are essential.
Role & Responsibilities Primary Responsibilities- Process accounts payable, including verifying invoice accuracy, obtaining required approvals, and preparing payments.
- Reconcile the general ledger to supporting subledgers, including data maintained the legal practice management software Clio.
- Maintain organized digital and paper files of invoices, receipts, and other financial records.
- Communicate with vendors, clients, and internal staff regarding payment status and account inquiries.
- Support the accounting department with month-end and year-end closing procedures and assist with departmental projects and general accounting tasks, as needed.
- Perform general administrative and clerical duties within the accounting department.
- Manage credit card expense processing by reviewing charges, collecting receipts, and ensuring accurate coding and entry in the accounting system.
- Receive and record client payments; prepare related deposit documentation.
- Reconcile bank statements and trust (IOLTA) accounts under supervision.
- Crosstrain on additional departmental functions to provide coverage and support during peak periods or staff absences.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial recordkeeping; ability to interpret basic financial statements.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with accounting software and tools (e.g., Quick Books, Excel, and related systems).
- Ability to act responsibly and ethically when working with sensitive and confidential financial information.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; an equivalent combination of education and three to five years of relevant accounting experience will be considered.
- Prior experience in a professional services or law firm environment preferred.
