Accounting Control Specialist
W2 Contract – 35 Hours Per Week
8am-3:30PM
Providence, RI - Hybrid Schedule
$40/hr
Key Responsibilities- Reviewing, researching, and approving complex general ledger journal entries.
- Supporting state agencies with accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and federal grant management.
- Validating biweekly payroll, taxes, deductions, and employee benefit expenses.
- Managing payroll garnishments and ensuring confidential handling of employee information.
- Performing month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial close activities.
- Reconciling accounts and analyzing financial data to ensure accuracy and proper classification of transactions.
- Monitoring accounts receivable, accounts payable, accruals, assets, liabilities, and interagency transactions.
- Preparing financial reports, expenditure analyses, forecasts, and statistical reports for management.
- Providing guidance and customer service to agency finance staff and state officials.
- Supervising financial staff and overseeing financial management programs when assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in accounting, finance, fiscal management, or business management in either the public or private sector.
- Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field may substitute for the experience requirement.
- A Bachelor's degree plus an active CPA license may also substitute for the experience requirement.
- Governmental accounting and budgeting principles.
- General ledger and financial management systems.
- Financial analysis, account reconciliation, and reporting.
- Payroll and benefits accounting.
- Ability to review large amounts of financial data and identify issues.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work with multiple stakeholders and provide financial guidance.
- Leadership and staff supervision experience.
- Attention to detail, confidentiality, and problem-solving skills.
