Overview

Senior Director, Research Integrity provides campus‑wide leadership in research compliance and integrity. The role develops programs, policies, streamlined business procedures, and education resources that enable ethical research in accordance with federal and state regulations and university policies.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the Human Research Protections Program, Animal Research Compliance Program, Conflict of Interest, Export Control, Research Security, and Research Integrity Programs, including misconduct investigations and Responsible Conduct of Research education.
  • Provide regulatory advisement to Institutional Review Boards (IRB), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Conflict of Interest Review Board (COIRB), and Embryonic Stem Cell Research Oversight Committee (ESCRO).
  • Ensure compliance with international research requirements through export control and research security oversight; serve on ad hoc committees addressing evolving regulations.
  • Direct training in responsible conduct of research and manage all research misconduct cases; conduct investigations and reviews in collaboration with the Office of General Counsel.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with university stakeholders (General Counsel, Sponsored Projects, Compliance, IT, Communications, Internal Audit, Risk Management, Environmental Health and Safety) and hospital partners to create centralized support services and consistent compliance standards.
  • Identify programmatic and institutional gaps; convene cross‑institutional working groups to develop and implement policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Supervise and develop a team of approximately thirty‑six full‑time equivalent staff members.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of related experience in a research environment, preferably higher education.
  • Strong analytical, decision‑making, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and staff leadership experience with a commitment to professional development.
  • Ability to synthesize complex regulatory and policy analyses into clear written reports.
  • Thorough understanding of animal subjects research, human subjects research, biosafety issues, and conflicts of interest with extensive knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local rules.
  • Experience conducting research integrity investigations, including handling allegations, inquiries, and misconduct investigations; forensic analysis skills strongly desired.
  • Familiarity with export control regulations and experience building, growing, and refining a university‑wide export control compliance program.
  • Experience reviewing and negotiating agreements for multi‑site human subject research collaborations.
  • Strong organizational management to provide high levels of customer service.
  • Project management skills and ability to innovate and implement system solutions moving business processes to electronic solutions.
  • Experience developing and implementing policies and procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with faculty, senior administrators, staff, and hospital partners.
  • Flexible, tactful and diplomatic.
  • Experience developing and conducting training or educational workshops in an academic setting.
