About Moses Brown School

Moses Brown is a nearly 250‐year‑old co‑educational independent day school enrolling 770 nursery through twelfth‑grade students. As a Friends school, we exist to inspire children to reach their full intellectual and spiritual potential through a curriculum rooted in Quaker values of community, equality, and service. We affirm the Quaker belief in the “Inner Light” of each person and value simplicity, integrity, and group wisdom.

Momentum:
Light the Way

Moses Brown is currently at a defining moment in its 250‑year history. We are in the early phases of implementation of Light the Way, a bold strategic plan designed to ensure that MB students are prepared for a complex and ever‑changing world while deepening our commitment to academic excellence, ethical leadership, and our foundational Quaker values.

Purpose/Objective

Moses Brown School is seeking a high‑energy, detail‑oriented Advancement Associate to provide vital support for our fundraising and engagement success. Joining a nimble and highly collaborative Advancement team, the Associate will act as a tactical partner in the implementation of the fundraising efforts to support the implementation of the Light the Way strategic plan.

This position is designed for an aspiring advancement professional looking to deepen their skills in a mission‑driven environment. You will benefit from direct mentorship from an experienced group of advancement professionals and will have the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility as you grow within the role and the department.

Major Responsibilities
  • Tactical Leadership Support: Proactively manage complex calendars and coordinate high‑level donor meetings and travel for leadership that drives the school's mission forward.
  • Professional Development & Mentorship: Work closely with gift officers and directors to learn the art and science of fundraising, donor relations, and strategic communications.
  • Narrative & Research: Craft compelling donor briefing materials, draft personalized correspondence, and manage follow‑up communications that resonate with Moses Brown's most dedicated supporters.
  • Operational Excellence: Serve as the “organizational backbone” for our small team—streamlining internal workflows, managing departmental budgets, and facilitating team planning sessions.
  • Stewardship & Diplomacy: Act as a professional point of contact for campus partners, faculty, and distinguished alumni, representing the Advancement office with poise and discretion.
  • Event Coordination: Assist in the planning and execution of engagement and donor events.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of professional experience. Experience in a related field, such as alumni relations, fundraising, independent schools, or nonprofits, is highly preferred.
  • Growth Mindset: A strong desire to learn the fundamentals of advancement and a proactive approach to seeking mentorship and professional development.
  • Technical Proficiency: Expertise in Google Workspace (Calendar, Docs, Sheets) and Canva. Experience with donor databases (Raiser's Edge/Blackbaud) is a significant plus.
  • Communication: Exceptional interpersonal and writing skills; the ability to apply tact and maintain strict confidentiality is essential.
  • Collaboration: A highly collaborative spirit and the ability to work effectively within a small, tight‑knit team rooted in Quaker values.
  • Adaptability: Ability to work occasional nights and weekends for special events and committee meetings.
