Senior Mechanical Superintendent (Commercial / Light Industrial Construction)
A Senior Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for leading field operations for large-scale commercial and light industrial mechanical construction projects. This role oversees installation, coordination, and execution of HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems while ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards. They serve as the primary field leader, driving productivity, mentoring teams, and coordinating closely with project management and trade partners.
Key ResponsibilitiesField Leadership & Supervision: Lead, direct, and mentor field crews, foremen, and subcontractors; enforce company safety standards, quality control procedures, and jobsite discipline. Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with OSHA and company policies.
Project Execution & Coordination: Oversee day-to-day mechanical installation activities including HVAC systems, ductwork, piping, and plumbing. Coordinate with general contractors, other trades, and project managers to maintain workflow and resolve field conflicts.
Scheduling & Planning: Develop and manage short- and long-term project schedules; drive manpower planning, sequencing, and material procurement to meet project milestones and deadlines.
Quality Control & Compliance: Ensure all installations meet project specifications, codes, and engineering drawings. Conduct inspections, oversee testing and commissioning, and maintain high standards of workmanship.
Productivity & Cost Management: Monitor labor productivity, track progress against budgets, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency. Assist in managing change orders and minimizing rework.
Safety Management: Enforce site-specific safety plans, conduct toolbox talks, and ensure compliance with all safety regulations, including Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and site-specific safety protocols.
Documentation & Reporting: Maintain daily reports, track progress, document field issues, and communicate updates to project stakeholders. Support coordination with BIM/VDC teams when applicable.
Required Qualifications & SkillsExperience: 8–15+ years in mechanical construction, with at least 5+ years in a superintendent or senior supervisory role within commercial or light industrial projects.
Project
Experience:
Proven experience on projects such as commercial buildings, healthcare facilities, data centers, manufacturing/light industrial facilities, or institutional construction.
Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, piping systems, plumbing, and mechanical equipment installation. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and schedules.
Leadership
Skills:
Demonstrated ability to lead large field teams, coordinate multiple trades, and drive project success in fast-paced environments.
Software & Tools: Familiarity with construction management software, scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera, MS Project), and BIM/VDC coordination processes is a plus.
Certifications (Preferred): OSHA 30, first aid/CPR, and other relevant safety or trade certifications.
Typical Focus AreasCommercial Construction: Office buildings, healthcare, education, and mixed‑use developments.
Light Industrial: Warehouses, distribution centers, manufacturing facilities, and data centers.
Project Phases: Ground‑up construction, tenant improvements, retrofits, and system upgrades, including commissioning and closeout.
