Superintendent - Heavy Civil Construction

Location: Rhode Island / Southern New England
Employment Type: Full-Time

Compensation
Base Salary: $150,000 - $200,000, depending on experience

Role Overview
A long-established heavy civil contractor is seeking an experienced Superintendent to lead complex infrastructure projects throughout Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.

The company delivers challenging bridge, culvert, dam, roadway, marine, and structural civil projects. This position is suited to a proven field leader who understands heavy construction, earns the respect of crews, and takes full ownership of safety, quality, productivity, and schedule.

This is not a volume hire. The company is looking for one exceptional Superintendent with a stable employment history, strong heavy civil experience, and a reputation for running work properly. For the right individual, the team is prepared to move quickly and offer compensation at the top of the market.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead field operations on heavy civil and infrastructure projects from mobilization through final completion
  • Plan construction activities, sequencing, manpower, equipment, and material requirements
  • Supervise self-performed crews, Foremen, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Coordinate closely with Project Managers to maintain schedule, budget, and production goals
  • Oversee bridge, culvert, dam, roadway, marine, concrete, excavation, and related structural scopes
  • Review plans, specifications, shop drawings, and work plans before construction begins
  • Develop short-term schedules and communicate daily production expectations to the field team
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and productive jobsite
  • Monitor workmanship and ensure construction meets contract and quality requirements
  • Track daily production, labor, equipment, deliveries, and changing site conditions
  • Coordinate with engineers, inspectors, owners, subcontractors, and public agencies
  • Identify potential problems early and develop practical solutions before they affect the project
  • Maintain accurate daily reports and field documentation
  • Lead punch list, closeout, and final turnover activities
  • Mentor Foremen and developing field leaders
What They're Looking For
  • Proven Superintendent experience in heavy civil or infrastructure construction
  • Strong experience with bridges, culverts, dams, road construction, marine work, structural concrete, or similar civil projects
  • Ability to manage multiple crews, subcontractors, heavy equipment, and technically challenging field operations
  • Deep understanding of heavy civil construction sequencing, means and methods, and production
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents
  • Strong knowledge of jobsite safety, quality control, scheduling, and productivity management
  • Clear communication and the ability to build productive relationships with crews, Project Managers, engineers, inspectors, and clients
  • Stable employment history and a reputation for accountability and follow-through
  • Willingness to work on projects throughout Southern New England
  • Valid driver's license required
