The VA Providence Healthcare System seeks a permanent, full-time Section Chief of Peripheral Vascular Surgery.

  • Schedule:

    Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM (compressed schedule available).

We provide comprehensive outpatient and inpatient care to Veterans in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. A coordinated care model ensures personalized care across 32 subspecialty clinics. The Medical Center's Ambulatory Care Program is supported by a general medical, surgical, and psychiatric inpatient facility fully accredited by The Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (TJC). The medical center delivers a broad range of services in medicine, surgery, and behavioral sciences and is currently operating 73 Beds.

Section

Chief Responsibilities
  • Maintains professional, technical, and administrative competencies to lead the section and respond to clinical needs. Patient population ranges from age 18 through geriatric.
  • Upholds high clinical and ethical standards; actively teaches residents and medical students; supports Medical Center and Surgical Service missions.
  • Provides inpatient and outpatient diagnosis, care, and treatment; promotes high quality care; supervises and teaches trainees; and participates in quality management activities.
  • Oversees section operations, including monitoring and evaluating care quality, appropriateness of treatment, and clinical performance of privileged staff.
  • When involved in direct patient care or when supervising same:
    Demonstrates expertise in patient examination, diagnosis, treatment planning, emergency effectiveness, patient management, consultation, education, specialty skills, dictation, and documentation.
  • Sustains high teaching standards via direct patient care, procedures, and clinical interpretation in the OR Suite, Vascular Surgery Clinic, and inpatient units. Supervises residents through observation and performance evaluations.
  • Precepts medical students and teaches courses, when applicable, at Brown University School of Medicine.
  • Potential opportunities to work with affiliates at Brown University Health.
Requirements
  • The applicant must be Board Certified or Board Eligible.
  • U.S. Citizenship:
    While open to U.S. Citizens, non-citizens may be considered when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Education:

    M.D. or D.O.(or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license.
  • Preferred (not required):
    Completion of an integrated Vascular Surgery residency or fellowship.
