* Positions are contingent upon the level of federal funding and student enrollment.

* Salary range: $2,800 to $3,500. The salary may be adjusted based on student enrollment.

* Candidates are required to upload a resume and cover letter. In the cover letter, please specify the level of teaching you are applying for:
Language Arts/MLL, Introductory, Intermediate, First-Year College Preparation, or Senior Writing Seminar.

* Provide the names and contact information for three current professional references. At least one reference must come from an educational administrator who has supervised the applicant. Please include the title of each person providing a reference.

* Taxes will be withheld from the salary, and payment will be made on August 7th.

Mandatory meetings/dates:

* June 9: UB Faculty Orientation #1 (5:00 pm - 8:00 pm).

* June 17:
Faculty/Staff Orientation #2 (5:00 pm - 8:00 pm).

* June 29 through August 5:
Teaching contract, as assigned.

* TBD:
English instructors' tutoring session with students in residence hall / Study Hall.

Information about CLASS

SCHEDULE:

* Classes meet for one hour Monday through Thursday. Instructors are also expected to tutor students at least once during the summer outside of class hours, including one evening session in the residence hall.

* The master schedule will be developed in late May, specifics will be communicated to individuals who are hired.

* First period begins at 8:15am; last period begins at 2:00pm.

* No classes will be held on Monday, July 6 (in observance of Independence Day).

The Upward Bound Summer Program is hiring part-time, temporary high school level English Literature & Composition Instructors. Qualified candidates must be able to teach Introduction to specific high school level courses in 1 or more of the following:
Language Arts/MLL, Introductory, Intermediate, First-Year College Preparation, Senior Writing Seminar.

Introduction to the Summer:

During the summer program, we focus on building a community that has high expectations for academic achievement, personal development, behavior, and student accountability. The students live in a residence hall and are supervised by a team of tutor counselors. They take high school courses in literature and writing, mathematics, science, and may participate in SAT prep, STEM, Foreign Language, and elective courses.

In addition to these courses, the students will have the opportunity to participate in recreational, social, cultural activities, and field trips.

The Upward Bound Program seeks individuals who can commit to expected time frames and support our philosophy, mission, and Code of Conduct (document to be provided if offered an interview).

The ELA instruction is intended to provide engaging, creative, and interactive instruction to program participants.
