Job Description

Are you an educator who feels something is missing in the traditional classroom?
Do you believe that humanities education is a tool for empowerment and equity?
Are you looking for a school community that celebrates resilience, supporting students who are navigating parenthood and academic hurdles?
Do you crave a workplace where 'success' is measured by student growth and personal wellbeing rather than just a test score?
Do you wish you had more prep time and professional support to actually be the innovative, creative, impactful educator your students deserve?
Do you view your teaching practice as an evolving craft, where you're constantly experimenting and refining your approach?
Are you ready to join a tight‑knit team where your voice is heard and your work has immediate, life‑changing meaning?

If you answered yes, then you might be the person we’re looking for. At Nowell Academy, we don’t just teach how to read, write and memorize historical facts; we provide the foundation for our students to change their community and their world.

  • Student Support and Community
    • Serve as a Primary Person mentor to a small group of Nowell students.
    • Develop strong, productive relationships with students, families, and community partners.

    • Participate in coaching cycles, including receiving feedback, modeling, and co‑planning.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to plan instruction, analyze student work, and improve outcomes for all learners.
    • Support MTSS efforts by implementing academic, behavioral, and attendance interventions as needed.
  • Professional Responsibilities
    • Maintain consistent and reliable attendance in accordance with established policies.
    • Participate fully in surveys, providing honest and meaningful feedback (including state, local, and donor surveys) as directed by the Nowell team.
    • Complete all required evaluations and earn satisfactory ratings.
    • Participate in all required professional development, staff meetings, and Nowell community events.
    • Support key school initiatives, including capstones, testing, arts week, and student events.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and Executive Director to ensure the effective operation of the school.
Nowell Values & Competencies
  • Upholds high expectations for student growth, achievement, and behavior, grounded in a strong belief that all students can succeed.
  • Builds respectful, affirming relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Communicates clearly and collaborates effectively to solve problems and improve outcomes.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, integrity, reliability, and strong organizational follow‑through.
  • Gives and receives feedback with openness and professionalism.
  • Takes initiative, contributes positively to team culture, and brings energy and commitment to Nowell’s mission.
