Background
The Providence Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) provides free, nutritious meals to all Providence youth ages 18 and under when school is not in session. Healthy food access during the summer is critical to a child's physical and social development. The SFSP is designed to fill the summer nutrition gap and make sure children get the nutritious meals they need to play during the summer and return to school ready to learn.
Job Description
The SFSP Monitor will work under the direct supervision of the administrators of the SFSP. They will be responsible for monitoring several summer lunch sites for compliance with established USDA and State regulations and for administrative support for the SFSP Office.
Monitoring ensures that sites operate according to program rules and that accurate site records are available. Most importantly, monitoring ensures that eligible children in the community are receiving nutritious meals.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Serve as a liaison between the administration for the SFSP and Summer Lunch sites.
- Ensure food site personnel maintain accurate records and required documentation.
- Complete visits and reviews for all assigned sites by the required deadlines.
- Suggest corrective actions for problems that arise at sites and ensure corrective action takes place.
- Perform other duties as assigned relevant to Summer Lunch operations.
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent (completion of bachelor’s program preferred).
- Must have a drivers license and access to a vehicle with State required registration and insurance.
- Show good communication and interpersonal skills to support quality meal service and support site staff.
- Be dependable and able to work independently.
- Be familiar with the City of Providence.
- Be comfortable working outside and actively engaging with diverse populations.
- Mandatory training will be provided
- Preference given to Providence residents.
- Students studying nutrition, child development, education, public health, social work, community development, recreation services, and other related fields are encouraged to apply.
- Position may be considered to fit internship or public service requirements
