CLPVD is seeking to hire a temporary part‑time highly organized and empathetic youth services educator and driver who will be responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing the literacy and book giveaway pieces of our summer learning outreach initiative to 5 Providence parks this summer with the Read mobile. The purpose of the Read mobile is to support Providence elementary students in maintaining their reading and math skills over the summer months.
PositionDescription
Under the direction of the Youth Services Coordinator, the Read mobile Youth Services Specialist is responsible for transporting the Read mobile to five designated park sites and delivering direct library services, with a focus on children, parents/caregivers, educators, and other youth‑serving individuals.
This role plans, coordinates, and implements the summer learning outreach program, leading engaging literacy‑based activities for youth in park settings. The Specialist works collaboratively as part of a three‑person team and provides supervision and guidance to two Read mobile Program Assistants.
The position also serves as the primary driver of the Read mobile (small box truck), ensuring safe and reliable transportation from Rochambeau Library to each park site on a daily basis.
Essential Job Functions- Operate and transport the CLPVD Read mobile safely to and from designated Providence park sites.
- Conduct outreach to Providence parks and recreation centers to promote Read mobile visits and encourage participation in literacy programs.
- Engage and instruct children visiting the CLPVD Read mobile through both individual interactions and group activities.
- Plan and facilitate literacy‑focused activities, including reading, crafts, and book distribution initiatives.
- Connect participants with ongoing literacy opportunities and promote year‑round use of library services.
- Record attendance and document observations following each session to support program evaluation.
- Provide excellent customer service by responding promptly and attentively to the needs of Read mobile patrons.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish preferred.
- Demonstrated interest in elementary education and a strong commitment to customer service.
- Experience in classroom teaching or the ability to work effectively with children in a patient, kind, and empathetic manner.
- Enthusiastic, creative, flexible, and adaptable in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to engage respectfully with diverse populations across varying ages, languages, and cultural backgrounds.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with staff, youth participants, and parents/caregivers.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to deliver engaging presentations that capture and maintain the attention of children, teens, and adults, including parents/guardians and educators.
- Ability to travel regularly to off‑site locations, including parks and recreation centers.
- Proficiency with computers and related technology.
- Working knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, including mission, vision, and program goals, with the ability to effectively communicate and implement them.
- Manual lifting and handling of materials, up to 35 lbs.
- Successful completion of a background check required.
- Valid driver’s license (standard/non-commercial) with a clean driving record required.
