Hours: Flex schedule
Salary: $40.00 per hour (contingent upon funding)
School counselors are integral to the summer learning program team, providing planning, guidance, and credit allocation. Under the direction of the summer program Director and Coordinator, the counselor ensures that students off‑track for their graduation cohort year have the opportunity to recover credits and that every senior leaving the Providence Public Schools after graduation has college or career goals. School counselors also assist in the registration process once summer credit recovery starts, ensuring students are taking the courses they need and completing a thorough review of student histories for students in the summer learning program.
Education,Training, and Experience
RIDE Requirements: PK-12 School Counselor; ESL Preferred
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree in Education from an accredited teacher education program
- Demonstrated competence in comprehensive guidance and counseling services
- Proven expertise with Skyward, Microsoft Excel, and Google Sheets
- Thorough understanding of the high school course sequences and the requirements found in the PPSD Graduation Policy
- Asset‑based view of diverse cultures and a belief in growth mindset; excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Weekly monitoring and follow‑up reports from Edgenuity on student progress and login habits
- Monitor targeted groups / meet with rising 12th and seniors needing final credits to graduate; review daily attendance reports and contact parents of absent students
- Schedule students in Edgenuity
- Provide guidance and support throughout the entire summer program
- Manage efficient registration process, scheduling, and grade reporting for all students enrolled in summer school courses
- Verify that seniors have completed the requirements to obtain their high school diploma following completion of summer classes
- Coordinate with guidance counselors/administrators from the various schools to ensure that seniors who complete summer courses and are able to graduate have the materials/clearance required to receive a diploma
- Communicate and interact professionally and compassionately with students, colleagues, parents, and the community
- Promote a learning environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of all students
- Support the summer program leadership team
- Commit to working all days of program
