Position: Director of the Rev. Robert A. Morris Institute

Provide strategic leadership, intellectual vision, and programmatic direction for the institute’s objective to foster a vision of dialogue and disputatio rooted in the Catholic intellectual tradition that rigorously seeks truth and cultivates justice so as to deepen mission, mutual understanding, and trust across the Providence College community. Rooted in the Dominican tradition of disputatio and inspired by the life of Rev.

Robert

A. Morris, O.P., the Institute seeks to build the conditions for the flourishing of all members of the human family through intellectual and personal engagement that reflect the principles of the Beloved Community.

Responsibilities

Provide intellectual and strategic leadership for the Rev. Robert

A. Morris Institute, developing a cohesive vision with programming that serves as a curriculum for faculty, staff, and students to learn to dialogue openly and honestly about essential and pressing issues of campus life and the contemporary world. This curriculum should cultivate a habit of disputatio in service of the search for Truth as well as educate the campus community in a Catholic understanding of the common good and the preferential option for the poor.

The Institute needs to be positioned to respond to experiences of injustice on campus. (50%)

Prepare annual reports outlining the institute’s impact, partnerships, and goals. Conduct regular program evaluations to assess alignment with institutional mission and outcomes related to justice and the common good, provide recommendations for institutional growth, and participate in regular communication with OMM and executive leadership to assess impact and refine objectives. Serve as a member of the Beloved Community Institutional Team. (20%)

Collaborate with campus partners to study campus climate on pressing questions facing the community, experiences of exclusion, and the reality of declining trust. Help to foster a campus culture that is rooted in the college’s mission-driven vision of the Beloved Community in consultation with the Assistant Vice President of Mission Integration. Collaborate with departments, divisions, and student groups to ensure that mission, community, and belonging are reflected in all aspects of campus life, from onboarding and faculty development to student formation and community engagement.

Collaborate with the Director of the Center at Moore Hall to ensure alignment between Moore Hall initiatives and community and cultural programming. Serve as a major collaborator for the annual MLK convention. (10%)

Other Duties

Perform all other duties as may be required.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in theology, pastoral ministry, social work, or a related field from an accredited institution required. Master’s degree preferred.
Five to seven years’ experience in communicating human dignity, racial justice, and Catholic Social Teaching or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to consult and facilitate conversations between multiple constituencies.
Knowledge in the area of civil discourse and dialogue.
Knowledge of Catholic social thought and the Catholic intellectual tradition.
Ability to collaborate on projects with others.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
