Hours: 8:15 am – 12:45 pm

Pay: $40 /hr (subject to enrollment and funding)

Location: Delsesto Middle School (up to 5 positions)

Under the direction of the school principal and/or a qualified supervisor, the Special Educator will instruct students enrolled in 180‑day Special Education classes who need reinforcement in language and social skills, consistent with the Extended School Year (ESY) services component for students’ Individual Educational Program (IEP).

RIDE Requirements:

• Special Education PK‑12 Severe/Profound
• All Grades Special Education – Severe Intellectual Disability PK‑12

ESL preferred.

• Knowledge and experience working with students with moderate/severe disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or behavioral/emotional issues.
• Extensive coursework in special education for severely/profoundly disabled students, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
• Knowledge of community resources and wrap‑around services for students with mild to severe disabilities.
• Knowledge of current research and trends on educating students with mild to severe disabilities.

• Monitor daily student attendance and implement proactive strategies to increase attendance at ESY.
• Collect, complete, and analyze ESY data, both in written documentation and within the web‑based program.
• Implement school‑to‑home strategies to maintain consistent attendance.
• Apply effective teaching strategies for students with moderate/severe disabilities, including techniques and assistive technology for students with severe behavioral/emotional disability.
• Implement the Unique curriculum and Essential Elements in all areas of instruction at the middle‑school level for students with severe to profound academic delays.
• Coordinate life‑skills activities and teaching strategies with teacher assistants and all support personnel in accordance with students’ IEPs.
• Coordinate a parent component and work with families to transfer activities from school to home.
• Coordinate with community agencies to provide appropriate social activities for students.
• Implement all activities related to self‑care skills, which may include diapering and feeding of students.
