Job Description
Providence Public School District (PPSD) serves approximately 22,000 students in 37 schools across Providence, Rhode Island. PPSD employs more than 3,200 professionals, including over 600 staff who directly support student services. Our schools are diverse, with students who speak more than 55 languages and come from 91 countries of origin. The District’s Student Support Services seeks a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) to provide Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) support to students.
RoleSummary
The RBT will report to the School Administrators and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), attend individual and group supervision, and participate in professional training. The position is a 10‑month, 1033 BEST appointment for the 2024‑2025 school year, with the possibility of extension. The RBT will be contingent upon funding.
Key Responsibilities- Provide 1:1 and classroom‑wide ABA support to students, including push‑in and pull‑out services.
- Collect, analyze, and enter behavioral data (ABC, function‑based, PBIS, and inflation).
- Develop and implement functional behavioral assessments (FBA) and behavioral intervention plans (BIP).
- Model and train school staff on ABA strategies, PBIS, restorative practices, and other classroom management techniques.
- Maintain accurate Medicaid billing where applicable.
- Serve on the crisis team and perform behavior threat assessments.
- Facilitate school-wide, positive, and safe culture initiatives.
- Lead or support district‑wide professional development on restorative practices, PBIS, and behavioral interventions.
- Collaborate with the Administration, Student Support Academy, District Attendance Team, and School‑Based Mental Health staff on student support needs.
- Participate in district and school trainings throughout the year.
- Attend group and individual supervision meetings with the BCBA.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or Executive Director of Student Support Services, or the BCBA.
- Organize school events and town meetings that foster community connection.
- Collect and maintain documentation of student behavior events and plans as part of the Student Support Team.
- Observe students and classrooms, record ABC data, and report findings.
- Act as an in‑school resource for staff to understand and improve behaviors.
- Analyze and monitor student suspension and behavioral incident data to develop targeted supports.
- Maintain consistent, constructive communication with students, administrators, staff, and families.
- Perform tasks related to flexible duty placements across multiple sites and age groups as needed.
- Be physically capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, using stairs, and other routine tasks.
- Contribute effectively as part of a cohesive team.
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience (required).
- Bachelor’s degree in Youth Development, Social Work, Psychology, Education Practices, or related field (preferred).
- Active Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification through the BACB.
- One year of RBT experience or prior experience as a special education paraprofessional.
- Experience working with diverse populations (race, language, socioeconomic background).
- Strong interpersonal, communication, writing, and analytical skills.
- Creative problem‑solving and strategic thinking abilities.
- Highly organized, self‑directed, and flexible to change.
- Experience in conflict resolution and de‑escalation.
- Knowledge of Providence community, organizations, and population.
- Familiarity with the Providence School Department Turnaround Action Plan and related state/national regulations.
- Experience with PBIS.
- Certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI).
- Knowledge of community resources and social agencies supporting student behavior.
- Knowledge of DCYF reporting procedures and practices.
- Understanding of function‑based intervention planning.
- Research‑based instructional/behavioral strategy implementation skills.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish.
- Current resume.
- CV describing how the applicant’s characteristics and experiences align with the position.
- Minimum of three references.
- BACB RBT certification number.
