Job DescriptionThe Providence Public School District (PPSD) serves approximately 22,000 students across 37 schools. The district employs more than 3,200 professionals, including 20 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, 11 high schools, and 2 district charter schools. The role is responsible for the administration and supervision of educational programs and specialized instruction and services at the elementary level.
The Manager will collaborate with the Executive Director, provide instructional leadership, and lead development and implementation of progressive special education programs to reduce the achievement gap between students with disabilities and their general education peers.
Education, Training, and Experience- At least 3 years as a special education teacher at the elementary level.
- Leadership experience preferred.
- Administrator of Special Education PK‑12 Certificate or Building Administrator with Special Education Teacher Certificate.
- Master’s Degree in Special Education Administration and/or Educational Leadership with related special‑education coursework.
- Provide instructional leadership to elementary school sites in developing quality specialized instruction and services.
- Collaborate with school and district staff to improve academic achievement of students with disabilities.
- Plan and support professional development for elementary educators regarding instructional programs and supports for students with disabilities.
- Collaborate with district program managers and intervention specialists.
- Analyze data and share findings to assist elementary educators in implementing age/grade‑appropriate programs for students with disabilities.
- Integrate research‑based instructional programs and strategies aligned with the district’s guaranteed and viable curriculum.
- Plan, design, and implement action plans related to state performance plan indicators and prepare documents and reports for state and federal requirements.
- Provide guidance and support to school sites in compliance with state/federal law and district procedures, including new referrals, IEP meetings, 3‑year evaluations, manifestation determination, and ESY.
- Develop a staffing plan for elementary special‑education programming based on student needs annually.
- Assist in hiring and recruiting special‑education educators and staff.
- Provide academic support, communication, and interventions for students with disabilities and their families.
- Plan and directly monitor transition services and programs to enable students with disabilities to achieve goals.
- Plan and develop programming for multilingual learners with disabilities.
- Direct, supervise, and evaluate the performance of assigned staff.
- Coach intervention specialists and/or teams on special‑education compliance and specialized instruction.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Experience with curriculum/instructional design and adaptive technologies.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local policies, rules, laws, regulations, and legislation pertaining to special education and non‑public schools.
- Knowledge of the general education curriculum, program of study, alternate assessment, best practices for instruction of students with disabilities, and special‑education eligibilities, supports, and services.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with other offices, school staff, parents, and community members.
- Facilitation skills to build consensus and resolve conflict.
- Knowledge or willingness to learn about developmental supports and strategies for multilingual learners with disabilities.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including facilitation of diverse groups.
- Ability to build positive relationships with people from diverse populations.
