Position: Continuing Education, Jewelry with Alternative Materials - Youth In-Person Instructor

Job Summary

In search of an inspired art educator who is interested in supporting the growth of teens as part of our in‑person youth program. The ideal candidate has experience in art education, a history of successful freelance art/design work, and extensive knowledge of potential career paths in art. Applicants should be prepared to teach in person (and online) while delivering courses to a diverse group of students with a range of abilities and experiences, including those from historically underrepresented communities.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and teach Jewelry with Alternative Materials classes on Saturdays from 1pm to 4pm during the Fall
    2026 semester (10/10/2026–11/14/2026).
  • Develop curriculum, syllabi, and lesson plans that are tied to specified learning outcomes.
  • Guide students through design thinking, communication, and creation, and help them navigate daily prompts and assignments.
  • Provide timely feedback and assessments to support student learning and personal development.
  • Adapt instruction to meet the needs of students at varying skill levels.
  • Attend and contribute to faculty meetings and program support activities.
  • Maintain compliance with RISD’s technology and safety requirements.
  • Accept and act upon constructive feedback from course evaluations by students and staff.
Course Content & Learning Outcomes

Students will learn to create statement jewelry using found objects and alternative materials.

  • Curate materials to be incorporated into wearable objects.
  • Test and experiment with the placement of wearable designs on the body.
  • Develop a concept of a wearable design that makes a meaningful statement.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • BS, BFA or Art/Design Major required.
  • Teaching experience, including the ability to create syllabi and lesson plans tied to learning outcomes.
  • Demonstrated expertise in jewelry making with alternative materials.
  • Ability to convey complex art and design concepts to students of varied skill levels (novice to advanced) within a condensed time frame.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement diverse teaching and learning for learners from a variety of educational backgrounds, environments and expectations.
  • Ability to meet RISD’s technology requirements.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • Experience teaching K‑12 in art and design.
  • Expressed interest in career planning and preparation for teens.
  • Master’s degree.
  • Teaching certification or certificate.
  • Knowledge and understanding of early‑mid childhood learner principles and respect for students.
Schedule & Work Details

Classes will be held on Saturdays, 1pm–4pm at the RISD campus in Providence, RI. The Fall
2026 semester runs from 10/10/2026 to 11/14/2026.
