Teacher Assistant – Pre‑K Special Education (SY 26‑27) [One Year Position]

Job DescriptionOverview: We are seeking an exceptional Pre‑K Special Education Teacher Assistant to support students with diverse learning needs in a collaborative environment. This one‑year position offers the opportunity to work alongside teachers and stakeholders in a supportive school community.
Responsibilities include partnering with general and special educators, supporting the implementation of individualized education programs (IEPs), reinforcing academic skills, and promoting student engagement. The role requires a commitment to student safety and bus monitoring duties.
Responsibilities- Participate in daily and long‑range lesson and classroom activity planning.
- Conduct learning exercises with small groups of students.
- Guide students in developing positive relationships with peers and adults.
- Assist with supervision of pupils in the classroom, corridors, school yards, lavatories, cafeterias, and on field trips.
- Support Pre‑K through 5th grade students with toileting, dressing, feeding, positioning, and self‑care, including diaper changes.
- Alert the teacher to the special needs of individual students.
- Collect and distribute educational materials.
- Correct students’ work and prescribe additional work to remediate weaknesses under teacher supervision.
- Operate machines that duplicate or copy information for distribution.
- Assist teachers with meeting personal and physical needs of children.
- Participate in discipline procedures and prescribe consequences for student behavior under teacher supervision.
- Help devise special strategies for reinforcing behavior or academic skills based on students’ needs and abilities.
- Act as a source of information for substitute teachers in the teacher’s absence.
- Commit to ongoing professional development sessions provided by RIDE, the Providence School Department, and Local Union 1033.
- Perform additional teacher assistant duties as requested.
- Associate’s degree, 48 college credits, or a passing score of 461 on the Para Pro Test.
- Rhode Island Early Learning and Development Foundation training certificate or willingness to work toward the Rhode Island Early Learning and Development Standards (RIELDS) based curriculum.
- Teacher Assistant Training Program Certificate (RIDE certification).
All teacher assistants must be available for bus monitoring assignments and will be compensated for those additional hours.
