High School Social Science Teacher

Job DescriptionWe are seeking a dynamic, student-centered High School Social Science Teacher to teach 9th grade and 10th grade World History I and World History II. The ideal candidate is someone who:
-Has a passion for teaching social science
-Makes the subject of history and facts fun and accessible for students
-Likes working with urban youth
-Enjoys building relationships with students, families, and other staff members
-This position is ideal for an educator who loves history and working with urban students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instructional Delivery:
-Teach high school-level World I and World II
-Content is properly scaffolded to meet the needs of all learners
-Instruction is explicit and clear for all types of learners
-Lessons are culturally competent, honoring students' background knowledge and meeting students where they are at. - Planning & Preparation:
-Develop lesson plans based on OER Project lessons and resources that meet student needs and challenge students.
-Plans lessons that seek a high level of student engagement
-Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly. - Classroom Environment:
-Create a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment.
-Promote inquiry-based learning and student collaboration. - Professional Development:
-Participate in training for on boarding and OER Project resources
-Participate in instructional coaching and mentoring
-Collaborate with colleagues in professional learning communities (PLCs) to analyze student data and refine instruction.
-Be a reflective practitioner. - Technology Integration:
Utilize digital tools and platforms that support pedagogy (e.g., data analysis tools, Canvas etc.).
Qualifications:
- Required:
Bachelor's degree in History, related social science, or equivalent. Valid state teaching certification in History. Familiarity with RIDE Social Studies standards and/or HQIM (High Quality Instructional Materials) - Preferred:
Experience with curriculum development Master's degree in Education, social science, or other subject area. Demonstrated ability to foster student engagement and critical thinking in science.

Strong understanding of social science content. Ability to scaffold complex scientific ideas through inquiry-based instruction. Commitment to equity in social science education and culturally responsive pedagogy. Strong communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills.
Compensation and Benefits:
