Job Description
Providence Public Schools District (PPSD) is seeking a highly motivated Behavior Support Assistant (Bilingual Preferred) to join our community of teachers, students, and stakeholders. The BSA supports students with significant and complex special education needs, implementing individualized support plans and reinforcing positive behavior strategies in structured settings such as Behavior Intervention Programs and self‑contained alternate classrooms.

Position Type: Full‑Time
Salary: $24.28 to $24.63 per hour
Education & Certification Requirements- Associate’s degree
- 48 college credits
- Passing score of 461 on the Para Pro Test
- Teacher Assistant Training Program Certificate
- Assist with data collection for individual student programs.
- Implement classroom and individual level/point systems and individualized programs.
- Intervene, monitor, and document student behavior during crisis situations, including time‑outs and physical interventions/restraints.
- De‑escalate problem behavior within the school setting.
- Accompany students and implement behavior systems during specials, lunch, recess, and other times when students are not in the special‑needs classroom.
- Function as part of a team in creative problem‑solving related to individual students.
- Assist in training other paraprofessionals in behavior management, crisis intervention, and data collection.
- Collaborate with service providers and outside agencies to meet student needs.
- Participate in advanced training related to job specifications.
- Actively participate in classroom activities directed by the teacher.
- Develop and train Providence staff in behavior plans and implementation.
- Create a positive learning environment.
- Maintain positive student‑staff relationships.
- Plan and coordinate incentives for behavior classrooms.
- Cover lunch in cafeterias at all sites.
- Monitor bus duty and be on time as per policy and procedure on the assigned day.
- Assist with AM/PM transitions.
- Provide float coverage for other behavior‑needs classrooms in emergency situations with approval by Local Union 1033.
- Follow policies and procedures regarding behavior management.
- Use Reality Therapy or other psycho‑educational methods to effect positive behavior change.
- Attend 90% of scheduled staff and team meetings, including days the Behavior Tech is absent, unless on excused extended leave.
- Attend 90% of supervision meetings with the Behavior Tech Supervisor, unless scheduling conflicts arise or on excused extended leave.
- Perform various duties as requested by the classroom teacher, Behavior Tech Supervisor, or School Principal within the bargaining unit.
- Ride the AM/PM bus as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Restrain Middle and High School students with behavior disorders when needed.
