Job Description

Providence Public Schools District (PPSD) seeks an exceptional COMMUNITY TRANSITION ASSISTANT LIAISON TEACHER ASSISTANT who is excited to join our community of teachers, students and stakeholders. We serve approximately 22,000 students at 37 elementary, middle, and high schools. Approximately 55% of students come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken. Principal

The Community Transition Assistant Liaison supports secondary students in achieving their IEP transition goals and preparing for a successful future in education, employment, and independent living. This role assists with engaging programming focused on work skills, travel training, daily living skills, and other essential skills for postsecondary success. Responsibilities include guiding students as they develop pre-employment and employment skills, providing encouragement and support, and collaborating with staff and families to maximize opportunities.

The liaison plays a key role in empowering students to build confidence, independence, and lifelong success.

  • Passing score of 461 on the Para Pro Test
RIDE Certification Requirements
  • Teacher Assistant Training Program Certificate
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist teachers and related staff to support lesson plans and develop students' skills in areas such as vocation, social, leisure, and ADL. Liaison will support and assist students in transportation activities such as riding RIPTA, social activities such as field trips to community campus, and assisting in utilizing money and making choices in restaurants.
  • Assist in employer and school partners to meet the work education objectives.
  • Assist students in job search skills to inform them of employment and career options.
  • Maintain confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic lists and records for activities and reliable information.
  • Monitor and document student performance in work sites, obtaining employer evaluations to identify training needs.
  • Monitor student's job locations to ensure safety.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops and committees (e.g., community-sponsored events, award ceremonies, career events) to convey and gather required information.
  • Prepare documents, reports, and written materials for communication to parents and staff, providing support and recommendations.
  • Respond to inquiries from internal and external sources to provide information or direction.
  • Support students with transportation issues in preparing testing, interviews, and obtaining documentation to meet transition goals.
  • Provide tutoring in all skill areas (work requirements, interviewing skills, self-determination) to enhance readiness for independence.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit.
  • Must be willing to participate in training and become certified as a job coach.
  • Must be willing to participate in de-escalation training.
  • Must attend program-specific professional development sessions.
  • Must have reliable transportation and be reimbursed for mileage.
  • Ineligible for bus monitoring duties at school.
