Upper School Principal, Director of Special Education, and Head of School
Hours: 1.0 FTE, Exempt
Responsibilities/duties include, but are not limited to:
- Provide specially-designed instruction to students in special education
- Plan and teach core content classes to small groups of students in accordance with each student's IEP goals
- Plan, collaborate, and co‑teach with regular education teachers
- Modify and/or make accommodations to lessons, projects, groupings, and tests to meet students’ learning needs
- Employ a variety of teaching strategies and techniques to ensure student understanding
- Develop and implement behavioral plans and employ consistent and effective behavioral management techniques
- Write, implement, and monitor progress on standards based on IEPs for students with various disabilities
- Stay up-to-date with knowledge about the disabilities of the students on caseload such as ADHD, LD, dyslexia, ED, mild MR, OCR, Asperger's Syndrome, Tourette’s, bipolar, and depression
- Participate in special education meetings
- Provide organizational support, skill development, and assistance with project completion in small group and pull‑out settings
- Coordinate and facilitate meetings with colleagues, parents, and/or team members to discuss progress or concerns of students with IEPs
- Administer, score, and write reports after assessing students with the Woodcock-Johnson as either new referrals or formal 3‑year re‑evaluation cases
- Participate in ETM meetings to evaluate students, review and analyze testing results, determine eligibility for services, create service plans, and review progress
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills to develop rapport with all members of the school community, including students, parents, teachers, and administrators
- Create, manage, and review IEPs for students on caseload
- Strengthen skills and knowledge through reflection, feedback, workshops, seminars, collegial sharing, and participate openly and actively in professional development, mentoring, and coaching in a continual cycle of growth and reflection
- Keep accurate records and complete all tasks in a timely manner

Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university, required
- Valid Rhode Island Department of Education Certification required
- Middle/Secondary Special Education Teacher, Grades 7‑12
- National background check (after offer)
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required

Salary: $45,184 to $84,270 per year
