Math Specialist Teacher
Providence Public Schools District (PPSD) seeks an exceptional Math Specialist Teacher who is highly qualified and skillful to join our community of teachers, students and stakeholders. This is an exciting opportunity for teachers who seek a challenging yet rewarding teaching experience.
The Rhode Island Right to Read Act was passed in July of 2019 and requires educators to exhibit either proficiency in or awareness of the knowledge and practices of the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy. Please be advised that this position requires Structured Literacy Awareness Level within one year of hire.
We serve approximately 22,000 students at 37 elementary, middle, and high schools. Approximately 55% of students come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken. Combined, our students and families speak 55 different languages and hail from 91 countries of origin. Job Description
The math specialist maintains a positive, caring, and supportive learning culture and environment for the diverse student population of PPSD. As part of the district professional development team, the specialist helps foster a professional learning community focused on analyzing student data to inform the instructional priority and/or school improvement plan.
Additionally, they will be required to provide coaches with support through coaching, observation, and feedback in order so site-based coaches can build the capacity of teachers to improve student outcomes. The specialist supports coaches with the implementation of high-quality instructional strategies aligned to CCSS, WIDA, TESOL, SLA, and NGSS, with a focus on supporting all students academically, linguistically and socio emotionally.
Coaching occurs through creating and delivering professional development, side-by-side planning and coaching, modeling, observing and providing non-evaluative feedback, and making use of critical data to design instruction that supports individual student needs. The secondary specialist promotes trusting, mutually respectful, and professional relationships in the school communities by maintaining strong communication and transparency of expectations.
Additionally, math specialist will:
- Participate in an annual review process to assess the overall effectiveness of the performance in the math specialist role in the areas of responsibilities outlined below.
Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university.
RIDE Certification Requirements:
- Elem KG-6 or Elem. 1-6 with MS Math Ext. 5-8
- OR MS Math Ext. 5-8
- OR Sec. Math 7-12 with MS Math Ext. 5-8
- OR Sec. Math 7-12
ESL Certification Preferred
