TAPA is an academically rigorous public charter school for the arts. We seek a full‑time Behavior Support Teaching Assistant or Paraprofessional (Bilingual Preferred) to support students in grades 5–12. The role reports to the School Culture Coordinator and focuses on building relationships, maintaining calm in challenging situations, and ensuring a safe, respectful learning environment.

• Student Behavior and Relationship Support:
  • Build consistent, trusting relationships with students across grades 5–12.
  • Reinforce school wide expectations through proactive, respectful, developmentally appropriate interventions.
  • Provide individual and small‑group support to students experiencing behavioral, social, or emotional challenges.
  • Assist with de‑escalation, conflict resolution, restorative conversations, and peer mediation.
  • Help students regulate emotions, repair harm, and return successfully to class following conflict or behavioral concerns.
  • Maintain student dignity while holding clear and consistent boundaries.
• School Culture, Supervision, and Coverage:
  • Maintain a visible and active presence during arrival, dismissal, passing periods, lunch, and other less‑structured portions of the school day.
  • Provide supervision and behavior support in classrooms and common areas as assigned.
  • Respond promptly when staff members request assistance with student behavior.
  • Help prevent conflicts from escalating through early intervention and relationship‑based support.
  • Support school wide culture initiatives, assemblies, community meetings, celebrations, and student activities.
  • Provide classroom coverage or additional supervision when needed.
• Collaboration and Documentation:
  • Work closely with the School Culture Coordinator, teachers, social workers, special educators, and other members of the student‑support team.
  • Follow established behavior plans, safety plans, accommodations, and student‑support procedures.
  • Communicate relevant information clearly and promptly to the School Culture Coordinator and appropriate staff members.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student interventions, incidents, and follow‑up actions.
  • Participate in student‑support meetings, professional development, and school culture planning as assigned.

• Experience working successfully with children or adolescents.
• Ability to build strong relationships while maintaining clear expectations and professional boundaries.
• Ability to remain calm, respectful, and solution‑focused during conflict or emotionally charged situations.
• Strong communication, judgment, organization, and follow‑through.
• Commitment to student‑centered, inclusive, restorative, and equity‑focused education.
• Ability to work collaboratively and respond flexibly to changing needs throughout the school day.
• Willingness to document student concerns and interventions consistently.
• Ability to maintain student confidentiality.

• Fluency in both Spanish and English.
• Experience providing behavior support in a school, youth program, residential program, or community setting.
• Experience working in an urban public school environment.
• Training or experience in restorative practices, de‑escalation, conflict resolution, peer mediation, trauma‑informed practice, or social‑emotional learning.
• Experience supporting students with disabilities, multilingual learners, or students experiencing significant behavioral or emotional needs.
• Associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree, or paraprofessional certification.
• Background in or commitment to the arts.
• At least 1 year of relevant experience.
• High School/Trade School degree preferred.
