The Achievement First Elementary Math Program

The Achievement First elementary math program aims for students to build a strong foundation in mathematical understanding, develop confidence as mathematicians, and experience joy in solving problems and exploring mathematical ideas. Students learn to think critically, communicate their reasoning, and apply their learning to meaningful situations.

Our program is grounded in several core components:

  • Core Instruction: Students develop strong conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and mathematical reasoning aligned to grade-level standards.
  • Problem Solving: Students engage in meaningful mathematical tasks that promote critical thinking, perseverance, and multiple problem-solving strategies.
  • Cumulative Review: Students regularly revisit previously taught concepts to strengthen retention and deepen understanding.
  • Small Group Instruction: Students receive targeted support and enrichment to ensure all learners can access grade-level content and reach their fullest mathematical potential.

Your Impact

The Director of Elementary Math Achievement is an integral member of the math team, partnering with principals, instructional leaders, and teachers to design and implement an exemplary elementary math program. This role supports schools in developing the tools, skills, and knowledge needed to deliver excellent mathematics instruction through professional learning, coaching, classroom observations, and data analysis. The position offers the opportunity to drive elementary math achievement across one of the nation’s leading charter school networks.

Responsibilities of the Director of K-4 Math Achievement will include but are not limited to:
  • Math Program Management & Design: Lead and support the elementary school math team in continuing to build a robust program and curriculum:
  • Manage Program Vision and Implementation
  • Act as a thought partner to the network leadership teams to help synthesize the network vision for math instruction and contribute to the development of clear programmatic recommendations for school leaders
  • Analyze Data
  • Deeply analyze student achievement data (student work samples, weekly quizzes, interim assessments and state tests) to determine how to better develop materials and provide targeted, high quality teacher training
  • Math Program Execution Support
