Faculty Position in Counseling Programs
Faculty members are responsible for providing students with a rich, relevant and engaging academic experience. The faculty role encompasses teaching, student outcomes assessment, curriculum development, student advising, and university service. Faculty continuously engage in professional development while maintaining current expertise in the applicable content area and developing students through effective and innovative teaching and learning practices.
The Counseling Programs, which include the M.S. in Addiction Counseling and M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, RI, invite applications for a new faculty position. Qualified applicants should be able to teach graduate level counseling courses in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Addiction Counseling across the eight CACREP core areas and provide support to the program.
Content and skills-oriented courses taught may include teaching theoretical, clinical and practice-oriented classes in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Addiction Counseling programs.
Faculty candidates for the M.S. in Addiction Counseling and M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling programs should have a strong record of teaching, service to the profession, and an active research and scholarship profile. Scholarship is defined broadly and may include community-based research, critical, qualitative, mixed methods, or quantitative methodologies and grant writing. Ideal candidates must demonstrate quality teaching/scholarship/service, student engagement, a commitment to collaboration, and an alignment with the counseling profession.
EssentialJob Functions
- Earned doctorate in counselor education or a related field of study from a regionally accredited institution, or other appropriate accreditation as determined by Johnson & Wales University, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program
- Counseling license in Rhode Island or ability to obtain such licensure upon hire
- Demonstrated direct clinical counseling experience in addiction and clinical mental health counseling
- Experience teaching at the university level, with preference for graduate level teaching in Counselor Education or related disciplines
- Ability to represent the M.S. in Addiction Counseling and M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling programs at internal university meetings and at professional and other community organizations and events as assigned
- Teaching experience at the graduate level
- Work experience in one or more of the following areas: marriage and family, couples counseling, school counseling, working with adolescents and addiction and substance use disorders
- Evidence of professional development, professional service and advocacy in counseling
- Evidence of research and scholarly activity in counseling commensurate with the faculty role
- Memberships in professional counseling organizations
