The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the areas of analytical chemistry, experimental physical chemistry, or biochemistry, with a preference for an interdisciplinary combination thereof, beginning August 1, 2027. A Ph.D. in chemistry or biochemistry or related fields is required, and postdoctoral or equivalent experience is highly encouraged.

We are seeking candidates in the teacher‑scholar model who are committed to engaged learning and collaborative, original research with undergraduate students, who employ inclusive practices in undergraduate teaching, and who will participate in the wider life of the Department and the College. Successful applicants will be expected to teach lecture and laboratory courses at the introductory level, two lecture or lab courses between analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, and biochemistry, and elective courses in their subdiscipline.

A willingness to teach courses in the core curriculum or for non‑majors is also valued. The teaching load at PC is nine credits per semester; research with undergraduate students may count in load under certain conditions. Candidates are expected to train and mentor undergraduates in the research laboratory and to establish an active, externally funded research program involving our students.

Our science facilities recently underwent a major renovation/expansion, giving us a contemporary space for teaching and research. The position will come with an office, research space, and start‑up funds. The Department is especially interested in applicants who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching, and/or service obligations. Applicants are encouraged to include in their cover letter and teaching statement evidence of effective engagement with diverse audiences.

The salary range for this position is between $77,000-$87,000.
