Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Assistant Professor of American Studies - Black and/or Latinx Expressive Culture

The Department of American Studies at Brown University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of American Studies, with a focus on Black and/or Latinx expressive culture. We particularly encourage applications from scholars working at the intersection of these fields. We seek a scholar with expertise in expressive culture, conceived broadly to include literature, visual and material culture, and/or performing arts, with a focus on the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.

Secondary specializations in Trans Studies, Disability Studies, Public Humanities, Digital Humanities, and/or Archival Studies would be of great interest. Candidates are expected to develop introductory courses that contribute to the American Studies and Ethnic Studies undergraduate curricula.

Faculty in tenure-track positions in American Studies are expected to maintain an active research profile and ultimately to publish "an impressive body of distinguished work that has importance for the candidate's field" by the time of tenure review. In addition to peer-reviewed scholarship, the department welcomes and values work shared in public venues that may fall outside of the traditional spectrum of academic publishing.

As the home of Brown's undergraduate concentrations (i.e., majors) in American Studies and Ethnic Studies, as well as a highly competitive Ph.D. program in American Studies, our department also places a high value on excellent teaching, advising, and mentorship. Our regular teaching load is 3 courses per academic year.
