Assistant Professor, LGBTQIA+ History, Brown University

The Pembroke Center for Teaching and Research on Women and the Department of History at Brown University invite applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position, at the Assistant Professor level, in LGBTQIA+ History. All geographic and temporal specialties will be considered, and particular interest will be given to candidates whose research centers locations in the Global South.

While the successful candidate will have defended the Ph.D. thesis by the time of appointment, we are seeking early-career candidates who will develop their first major monograph supported by the Pembroke community and the History Department’s robust mentorship program, including a manuscript workshop that generally takes place in the third or fourth year in rank. The Brown University History Department and the Pembroke Center place a high priority on research excellence, high-quality teaching, and a commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic community.

Interested candidates should describe their ability to contribute to each of these three areas in a letter of application, and they should describe their ability to design and teach courses both for History and for the Gender and Sexuality Studies program housed at the Pembroke Center.
