Instrumentation and Controls Engineer
Location:
Available in any U.S. location; prefer proximity to a Jacobs office.
You'll be accountable for the schedule and technical quality of challenging engineering tasks, gaining familiarity with client expectations, scope, budget, and schedule. You’ll provide on‑site assistance during startup, coordinate work activities with other staff and the discipline lead. As part of a collaborative, multi‑disciplinary team, you’ll design and optimize control systems, develop P&IDs, size valves, specify instrumentation, document and model design information, and ensure compliance with building codes and industry standards.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or other related engineering or technical field
- At least 4 years of experience working with instrumentation and control
- Experience in industrial or commercial control systems, including Building Management Systems (BMS), SCADA systems, or Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
- Professional Engineer License (PE) or Engineer in Training (EIT)
- Experience with data center control system design, commissioning, and infrastructure components
- Working knowledge of DDC, PLC, DCS, or other control platforms
- Working knowledge of common instrument types and applications
- Experience preparing technical specifications, point lists, and design drawings
- Served as a technical lead within a project team
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Forward‑thinking, eager to learn best practices and contribute innovative ideas
- Self‑motivated with proven ability to learn quickly and continuously advance technical proficiency
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively within multi‑disciplinary teams
- Passion for critical facilities, infrastructure systems, and construction
- Experience mentoring junior professionals
