Supplier Technical Assurance Engineer – New Model Launch

Providence, Rhode Island (Onsite Resident Role)

Monthly travel required to Monterrey, Mexico (~1 week/month)

We are hiring a seasoned Supplier Technical Assurance/Supplier Development Engineer to support a global automotive OEM on a critical supplier development initiative tied to upcoming product launches. This role will translate OEM supplier requirements to their new supplier and provide coaching to get them up to standard to meet program deadlines in the next 9+ months. This is a hands‑on resident engineering assignment embedded at a key supplier site responsible for producing critical components within a multi‑stage global manufacturing flow:

  • Raw material processing at source
  • Sub-assembly manufacturing in Mexico
  • Final finishing and export to overseas production facilities
Role Overview
  • As the on-site technical representative, you will work directly with supplier leadership, manufacturing teams, and a global OEM engineering organization to ensure full readiness for Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), production validation, and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP/PSW) milestones.
  • You will diagnose gaps in manufacturing systems, supply chain execution, and industrialization planning - and drive structured action plans that elevate the supplier to automotive best practice standards.
  • This role is not about design - it is about execution, manufacturing system maturity, and supplier transformation.
Key Responsibilities
  • Act as onsite resident engineer and technical liaison between OEM engineering teams and supplier operations
  • Assess and improve supplier manufacturing systems across quality, delivery, capacity, and logistics
  • Lead end-to-end manufacturing and supply chain feasibility assessments
  • Identify risks from sourcing through industrialization and series production; develop mitigation and resilience plans
  • Validate supplier industrialization plans, factory layouts, and capacity models
  • Ensure alignment with APQP milestones and drive PPAP/PSW approvals
  • Embed structured factory operating systems (People, Production, Quality, Planning, Logistics)
  • Apply lean manufacturing principles to improve flow, stability, and performance
  • Coach supplier teams on automotive OEM expectations and operational discipline
  • Support Product Engineering in Design for Manufacture (DFM) execution
Key Performance Indicators
  • 100% Phase 1 PSW achieved at TT build
  • 100% Phase 3 PSW achieved at PP build across programs
  • 100% APQP deliverables reviewed and aligned within 30 days
  • Supplier readiness aligned to all new model launch milestones
Required Experience
  • Engineering or technical degree
  • 5-10+ years in Supplier Technical Assurance, manufacturing engineering, or supplier development
  • Strong experience managing external suppliers in technical or production environments
  • Deep understanding of APQP, PPAP, and structured problem-solving (8D, PPS)
  • Strong application of lean manufacturing tools (e.g., value stream mapping)
  • Ability to assess manufacturing capacity at plant and workstation level
  • Experience working across complex, multi-site supply chains
  • Strong communication skills across functions, cultures, and senior leadership levels
Highly Valued Experience
  • Automotive manufacturing or Tier 1 supplier experience
  • Past experience managing a supplier turnaround
  • Aerospace or medical device supplier development/quality systems experience
  • Knowledge of IATF 16949/AIAG standards
  • Exposure to battery or electrification supply chains
Ideal Profile
  • Hands‑on problem solver who thrives in manufacturing environments
  • Comfortable challenging suppliers constructively and driving accountability
  • Structured thinker with strong analytical and operational instincts
  • Experienced in turning around underperforming suppliers or immature systems
  • Strong influencer who can align engineering, supply chain, and supplier leadership
  • Resilient in fast‑paced, high‑pressure launch environments
