We are seeking a results-driven Director of Business Development to lead growth initiatives for a well-established mechanical contracting firm. This individual will be responsible for identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities across HVAC, plumbing, and/or process piping projects. This is a mid-level leadership role focused on relationship development, market expansion, and strategic positioning within commercial, industrial, and institutional construction markets.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and execute business development strategies to drive revenue growth in HVAC, plumbing, and process piping markets
- Build and maintain strong relationships with general contractors, owners, developers, engineers, and key decision-makers
- Identify and pursue new project opportunities in sectors such as healthcare, life sciences, commercial, industrial, and institutional
- Lead the pursuit process including qualification, preconstruction engagement, and proposal strategy
- Collaborate with estimating, preconstruction, and operations teams to align on project pursuits
- Track market trends, competitor activity, and upcoming project pipelines
- Represent the company at industry events, networking functions, and client meetings
- Maintain and grow a robust pipeline of qualified opportunities
- 5–10+ years of experience in business development, sales, or project management within mechanical construction
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and/or process piping systems and construction processes
- Established network within the construction community (GCs, engineers, owners, developers)
- Proven track record of winning work and developing client relationships
- Ability to understand technical project requirements and translate them into business opportunities
- Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
- Self-starter with a strategic and relationship-driven mindset
- Experience working for a mechanical contractor or subcontractor
- Exposure to design-build, design-assist, or negotiated work environments
- Familiarity with markets such as healthcare, pharma, data centers, or advanced manufacturing
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field (preferred but not required)
- Base salary + performance-based bonus
