HSSE Advisor - Northeast

Job Description

Shell is seeking an HSSE Advisor – Northeast. This position serves as the overall Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) focal point for assigned Trading & Supply assets. The role supports operations and engineering teams in implementing and sustaining agreed-upon operational HSSE targets, priorities, and associated projects. Also, will help drive Human Performance, a Learner Mindset, Psychological Safety, as well as Engagement and Coaching Skills for both Shell and Contractor Partners.

The successful candidate will play a key role in frontline work execution and will help create and embed a culture built on trust and learning while leveraging strong foundational leadership skills.

This role can be based in any of the following locations:
Providence, Rhode Island;
Long Island, New York; or New Haven, Connecticut, and requires 25% travel across the Northeast and Midwest asset network.

• Serve as the primary HSSE advisor for assigned assets, coordinating with terminal leadership and stakeholders to drive HSSE priorities and continuous improvement
• Provide leadership and oversight for personal and process safety by driving hazard identification, risk mitigation, and barrier management
• Support effective implementation of risk management processes (e.g. Management of Change, Permit to Work) to identify and control operational risks
• Provide HSSE oversight for construction and capital projects, ensuring activities are executed in accordance with OSHA requirements, Shell standards, and industry best practices
• Lead and support assurance activities to verify HSSE performance and compliance with regulatory requirements, Shell standards, and internal HSSE policies across assigned assets
• Facilitate incident investigations, corrective action closure, and sharing lessons learned to prevent recurrence
• Support emergency response planning, drills, exercises, and readiness activities across assigned terminals
• Maintain HSSE training programs and provide coaching, guidance, and competency development for employees and contractors
• Oversee contractor HSSE performance through plan reviews, audits, risk assessments, and contractor engagement activities

• Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, HSSE, or a related field is preferred
• At least 3 years of relevant work experience, preferably in HSSE within the oil and gas industry
• OSHA certification or any safety-related certification is a plus
• Must be willing to travel a minimum of 25% of the time
• Technical understanding of hazard identification, consequence, and risk assessment models
• Ability to effectively influence internal and external stakeholders to achieve improved HSSE performance
• Familiarity with the Project Delivery Framework and practical application of the HSSE & SP Control Framework

The base salary range for this position is $103,000 - $ 155,000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.
