Job Summary

The Retirement Specialist will assist in managing the daily operations of Care New England’s retirement plans, providing support to employees, retirees, and beneficiaries.

The Retirement Specialist will be responsible for overseeing multiple active and frozen defined benefit plans, 403(b) plans, and a 457(b) plan. The incumbent will manage all retirement communications and educate employees on retirement benefits.

The Retirement Specialist will work closely with vendors to ensure compliance with ERISA and other regulations, provide information and reports for plan benefit calculations, valuations, and audits, and serve as the point contact for annual retirement plan audits and special retirement programs.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist in managing the daily administration and maintenance of Care New England’s defined benefit and defined contribution retirement plans.
  • Develop communications to assist employees with enrollment in retirement programs and answer related questions.
  • Conduct group benefit presentations and/or individual meetings with employees regarding retirement benefits.
  • Respond to inquiries and employee issues regarding defined contribution plans.
  • Help ensure that retirement plans are administered according to Plan provisions and follow all government regulations, working with actuaries, record keepers, and co‑fiduciaries on necessary changes.
  • Distribute relevant information and documentation to plan participants and beneficiaries.
  • Work closely with the Senior Manager of Compensation & Retirement to develop and provide actuaries and auditors with information and reports for plan benefit calculations, valuations, and audits.
  • Ensure accurate record keeping and develop and maintain various retirement plan reports, including ad‑hoc reports.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders including Payroll, Finance, and Information Technology.
  • Lead retirement projects such as requests for proposals (RFP), implementations, and special retirement programs as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in benefits, 401(k), 403(b), and/or pension administration.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly explain retirement plan options in easily understood terms.
  • Highly organized, attentive to detail with excellent follow‑through.
  • Strong sense of discretion; ability to handle confidential, sensitive information.
  • Experience working with 401(k) or 403(b) plans and knowledge of traditional defined benefit plans.
  • Understanding of regulations (ERISA, IRS, and DOL) relating to defined contribution and defined benefit plans.
  • Proficient with Excel and other MS‑Office tools – Word, Power Point, etc.
