Summary
The Grants and Financial Coordinator provides administrative pre‑ and post‑award and financial services to the MMI Department Manager, Chair, Finance and Administration Manager, graduate students, postdocs, and faculty principal investigators. The incumbent prepares and reviews grant proposals using the HURON grant management tool and sponsor submission tools, coordinates sponsored research funding and contracts, reviews and processes awards, ensures compliance with award terms, provides guidance on sponsored project issues, manages budgets, reviews expenditures, prepares financial reporting, and participates in training.
The role also serves as a backup HR Coordinator, assisting with staff recruitment postings and reporting on position and costing end dates, and advises the grant manager and department manager of items needing attention.
- Required:
Bachelor’s degree (Accounting or Finance major preferred) - Required:
1–2 years of finance and budget experience (preferably in academia or a not‑for‑profit setting) - Desired:
Research administration experience;
Accounting experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, analysis, reporting, reconciliation, and journal entries - Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Organize and prioritize workload in a multi‑tasking environment with careful attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint), Google Workspace, Web‑based programs, File Maker, and Adobe Acrobat Pro
- Excellent math and advanced Excel skills
- Good customer‑service skills and a positive attitude
- Effective oral and written communication skills for eliciting, analyzing, and presenting clear, concise materials
- File management skills
- Willingness to learn and pursue training opportunities
- Flexibility to work outside regular hours to meet grant and departmental deadlines
- Ability to work under pressure in a deadline‑oriented environment
- Adaptability to change—including software, federal regulations, and university policies
