KLR Executive Search Group is proud to partner with H. Carr & Sons, LLC to recruit a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for its Providence, Rhode Island headquarters, due to a planned retirement. H. Carr is a leading, family-owned specialty subcontractor with over $100M in annual revenue and a strong reputation across New England.
This is a senior leadership role within a stable, relationship-driven organization undergoing a generational transition. The CFO will serve as a key member of the executive team, partnering closely with the CEO and President to drive financial strategy, operational performance, and organizational scalability. This role blends hands‑on leadership with strategic oversight and will lead the accounting, financial reporting, and administrative functions of the business.
Responsibilities- Lead all accounting and financial operations, including month‑end close and financial reporting.
- Own budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
- Develop and deliver financial insights, KPIs, and variance analysis to leadership.
- Partner with operations and project teams to improve financial and operational performance.
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure GAAP compliance.
- Manage banking, bonding, audit, tax, and external financial relationships.
- Oversee payroll, insurance administration, and safety‑related financial functions.
- Evaluate and implement improvements in financial systems, ERP, and processes.
- Build, mentor, and develop a high‑performing finance team.
- 15+ years of progressive finance and accounting leadership experience.
- Experience in construction or project‑based industries preferred.
- Strong expertise in project accounting, job costing, and WIP reporting.
- Experience in family‑owned or privately held businesses preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial controls.
- ERP implementation experience required (Trimble Spectrum a plus).
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
Base salary range of $250,000 – $300,000
Bonus opportunity based on performance
On‑site role based in Providence, Rhode Island
