Commercial Credit Underwriter
The Commercial Credit Underwriter (CCU) position is designed and intended to prepare individuals for the role of Portfolio Manager I or a future Credit Professional role by providing specific on-the-job training as well as experience working within a Lending Team environment. CCUs report directly to the Commercial Credit Officer. The position is accountable primarily to the Credit Team that the underwriter is assigned to, with indirect accountability to the Regional Manager, Lending Center Manager, and Loan Officers.
Performance reviews will be prepared by the Commercial Credit Officer, with input provided by the Regional Manager, Lending Center Manager or Lending Officers. The CCU will utilize their credit skills to primarily underwrite for a portfolio of both commercial real estate (CRE) and C&I loans. The incumbent will work closely with Portfolio Managers on the Credit Team, and Lending Officers who solicit, develop and service a wide variety of commercial loans and lines of credit.
Under the direction and review of the Commercial Credit Officer the CCU is responsible for underwriting, evaluating, and making independent decisions/recommendations for commercial loan requests. This includes but is not limited to, evaluating obligor risk ratings on both new and existing relationships ensuring quality and soundness for credit transactions.
Core Competencies:
The CCU will be encouraged to make independent credit decisions and recommendations, which are based on their analysis of the business and guarantor's capacity to perform and repay. Will have the ability and willingness to communicate directly with credit applicants (under guidance and direction from senior RTC commercial banking personnel) to obtain and develop information concerning their business and to determine whether the loan would be an acceptable risk to the Bank.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics or equivalent experience.
- At least one year of prior Commercial Credit Analysis experience; specific experience with Commercial Real Estate Loans a plus.
- Formal Credit Training a plus.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial statements, tax returns, and valuation reports.
- Ability to effectively write and complete credit memorandums and summaries and general business correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, co-workers, and other constituents.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Excel and Word
- Experience with nCino preferred.
- Excellent time management, organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and work in a deadline-driven, dynamic environment.
- Must be self-motivated with strong initiative, accountability, and attention to detail with the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
