SUMMARY:

Reports to the Vice President, Ambulatory Pharmacy Services. The Director of Pharmacy Finance is a management role responsible for developing, managing, and providing strategic oversight of all financial activities within the Brown University Health (BUH) pharmacy enterprise. This role holds primary accountability for the annual operating and capital budget processes, financial reporting, financial analysis and planning, cash management, revenue cycle management, and accounts payable oversight across all pharmacy affiliate sites and programs.

The Director of Pharmacy Finance partners closely with Pharmacy Senior Leadership and BUH Executive Leadership to drive financial strategy, support business growth, and achieve financial goals established by affiliate hospital sites, the ambulatory pharmacy program, the 340B program, Brown University Health Pharmacy, LLC, and the broader Brown University Health system. This role provides direct financial oversight for system-wide pharmacy revenues and expenses and serves as a primary financial strategist supporting rapid and sustainable growth across the enterprise.

This is a system-level leadership position requiring a high degree of independent judgment, cross-functional collaboration, and executive engagement.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversees operating and capital budgets, revenue management, financial projections, and alignment with system-wide financial goals.

Consolidates system-wide financial statements, maintenance of accurate and audit-ready financial records, and reporting to executive leadership.

Develops financial models, ROI analyses, long‑range planning, and data-driven evaluation of financial and operational trends.

Creates KPIs, dashboards, productivity tools, and identification of process improvement opportunities through performance metrics.

Oversees revenue cycle policies, AR dashboards, cash collection processes, long‑range RCM strategy, and management of the RCM team.

Ensures accuracy of position control systems to ensure appropriate hiring and staffing across the department.

Oversees requisitions, procurement, AP processes, and monthly reconciliations in accordance with financial controls.

Implements and monitors financial controls, policy updates, and coordination with internal/external auditors to ensure compliance.

Manages financial/operational projects, cross-functional team leadership, stakeholder alignment, policy standardization, staff education, and adherence to organizational values and compliance standards.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work may require extended periods of time spent standing and walking. Requires the visual and manual dexterity to operate a computer. May require travel between affiliate sites and facilities as needed.

INDEPENDENT ACTION:

Functions independently within a broad scope of departmental policies and practices. Refers complex or novel issues to supervisor when clarification of organizational policies and procedures may be required.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Bachelor degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field required. Master's degree (e.g., MBA, MS, MPH) preferred.

Strong understanding of inpatient and ambulatory pharmacy systems and finance, health care finance, and hospital operating systems preferred.

Advanced skills with Microsoft 365 applications, which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access, and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis, and maintain databases.

Experience with Microsoft Power Business Intelligence (BI) preferred.

Excellent interpersonal, negotiating, and presentation skills with ability to provide targeted communication, both verbal and written, to internal and external constituents.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in finance management in a hospital or health care setting and/or supply chain/logistics.

Experience in pharmacy finance, 340B program financial management, or health system revenue cycle management strongly preferred.
