public service assistant – part‑time
the public service assistant (psa) is a civilian position that augments the sworn member force of the putnam county sheriff’s office. Psas perform a variety of services that do not require law‑enforcement authority. They do not have arrest powers and will not carry a weapon while performing duties, except for oc spray (agency issued – on‑duty use only).

- ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers
- ability to multi‑task
- no current probation
- approx. 28 hours per week
- may be exposed to inclement weather due to job assignments
- hours may vary depending on assignment
- may be used to assist in calls for service within putnam county
- serve non‑enforceable civil papers to appear in court as defendant or witness
- delivers and serves all non‑enforceable civil process pursuant to civil law
- serve witness subpoenas, summonses, notice of hearing, notice of trial, and non‑enforceable writs
- prepare necessary paperwork relating to issuance of civil papers
- maintain schedule assigned by supervisor for serving civil process
- deliver court orders to persons designated by the court
- perform related work as required
- knowledge of laws and ordinances relating to civil process
- knowledge of county geography
- knowledge of procedures used in serving civil process
- knowledge of techniques involved in serving civil papers
- ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies
- valid florida driver license
- high school diploma or equivalent
- ability to pass a physical examination and drug screening
- ability to pass a thorough background investigation
- possibly eligible for frs (florida retirement – employees contribute 3% of salary)
- salary is $16.75 an hour
- position is not eligible for health, dental, or vision insurance
