Patient Care Technician
Summary
Under general supervision of Central Transport Manager, transports patients and patient related materials throughout the hospital campus. Works primarily in outpatient clinical areas, such as the Fain Health Center (FHC). All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the patients. - Transport patients and materials within the hospital, and to and from outside facilities.
- Transport patients via wheelchair, bed or stretcher to and from clinical and ancillary areas.
- Assist clinical personnel in transferring patients to or from beds, chairs, wheelchairs, and/or stretchers.
- Support department areas as directed by the dispatcher.
- Collect and sign off specimens, cultures, orders, and requisitions, and deliver items to appropriate destinations.
- Deliver audiovisual equipment.
- Maintain established department policies and procedures related to quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control. For example, clean and store equipment upon job completion.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Basic knowledge: ability to follow written and oral instructions in English; level of education normally attained in courses at secondary school levels. Effective interpersonal communication skills. Physical ability to perform essential duties. Demonstrate knowledge, visual acuity, and skills necessary to provide correct patient identification (check names on patient bracelets, pager and ticket to ride).
- Experience:
Entry level. Customer service experience preferred. Between 2-4 weeks of on‑the‑job training will be provided.
Physical Requirements
Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals, physicians’ offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Works with transport equipment and has direct patient contact; takes standard precautions and proper PPE as directed by nursing personnel when transporting barrier patients. Uniforms provided must be worn. Any potential hazards are minimized or nullified by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use of safety equipment and protective clothing.
Pay Range
$17.00 - $25.82 per hour
