Summary
The Nurse Residency Program System Manager reports to the System Director of Professional Practice and collaborates with system nursing education, professional practice, and leadership to plan, design, and implement evidence-based nurse residency programs in accordance with the American Nurse Credentialing Center standards. The role is accountable for primary clinical excellence and supports quality nursing care and positive patient outcomes, guided by the American Nurses Association Nursing Administration and Professional Development Scope and Standards.
PrincipalDuties and Responsibilities

- Assess orientation and training program needs, develop and execute program objectives, and evaluate and improve competency-based orientation for nurse residents across the Brown University Health system.
- Oversee the Nurse Residency Programs, including maintenance of an evidence-based curriculum aligned with system priorities.
- Support the transition of nurses new to practice, new to a practice area, and new to the organization.
- Provide teaching, coaching, mentoring, and feedback to nurses in the residency program in collaboration with unit leadership.
- Monitor and evaluate nursing practice to ensure consistency with national standards, evidence-based information, and nurse-sensitive outcomes.
- Seek top performance in core measures, National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI), Hospital Consumer Assessment of Health Plans Survey (HCAHPS), and compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC) standards.
- Collaborate with interprofessional team members to solidify relationships that foster delivery of quality care.
- Facilitate process improvement in patient care based on systematic assessment and evidence-based practice; conduct ongoing quality audits and analyze patterns to re-evaluate strategy.
- Review current professional literature, critically interpret and select relevant research findings, and provide evidence for practice decisions and projects.
- Utilize clinical expertise and evidence-based practice to guide staff in practice changes; assist clinical nurses with evidence-based research processes and develop evidence-based practice projects and research.

- Implementation of standards in accordance with American Nurse Credentialing Center standards.
- Management of continuous quality improvement and participation in operational improvement committees, as needed.
- BSN and MSN required with relevant clinical experience; certification preferred.
- Must hold current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills for patient care across the lifespan, including aging processes, human development stages, and cultural diversity considerations.
- Minimum of three years’ relevant clinical experience with demonstrated leadership, teaching, and communication skills.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to conceptualize, develop, and effect quality nursing services with a commitment to continuous quality improvement.
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated effective leadership in a culturally diverse environment.
- Maintains clinical competency to understand processes and identify barriers for quality improvement.
- Develops and maintains expertise in the field to address questions and provide strategic direction for quality.
Shared supervisory responsibilities with nursing leadership team.
