Job Description
Optical Consultants are responsible for selling eyewear and eyewear accessories to patients. They ensure patients are fitted with the right‑size frames that fit their needs and lifestyle and dispense lenses with correct prescription and measurements. Optical Consultants are at the heart of our business. Their technical and customer service skills ensure patient satisfaction and repeat business.
Responsibilities- Delivers extraordinary experience to each patient and provides a complete understanding of customized product and service recommendations.
- Develops own clientele through outstanding service and referrals.
- Keeps current on company/industry products, procedures, rebates, lens and frame types.
- Manages patient calls, updates on order status, resolves order issues, and escalates to Store Manager as needed.
- Retrieves patient charts and electronic health records.
- Assists patients in selecting frames, lens type, and lens treatments (tints and coatings) based on specific needs and facial measurements.
- Educates patients on proper eyeglass and contact lens care.
- Collects eye and face measurements for proper fit.
- Interprets prescriptions written by optometrist and ophthalmologist.
- Creates work orders for lab technicians specifying information on required lenses.
- Follows up on pending orders, verifies compliance with time guidelines, informs patients of status, and notifies them of order arrival.
- Dispenses glasses by inspecting the product, checking fit, adjusting as needed, and asking for feedback.
- Adjusts eyewear for visual acuity, proper fit, and patient comfort using appropriate tools.
- Proficient in using pupilometers, PD sticks, lensometers, pliers, wrenches, frame warmers, etc.
- Communicates regularly with technicians, store managers, and others to provide patient information or order status.
- Inspects the final product for flaws, cleans, and polishes lenses with cloths and solvents.
- Maintains cleanliness and visual appeal of frame boards, displays, mirrors, work bench, office area, bathroom, and breakroom.
- Restocks retail boards with new merchandise.
- Understanding product issues and analyzes problems, answering patient questions regarding insurance, warranty, pricing, promotions, etc., accurately and thoroughly.
- Collaborates with technicians, front desk associates, managers, and optometrist.
- Sells miscellaneous accessories such as cleaners, contact lens supplies, sunglasses, safety glasses, etc.
- High School Diploma.
- Minimum of one-year experience working as an optician strongly preferred.
- Experience with HIPAA requirements preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent customer service skills and pleasant demeanor; sales experience preferred.
- Manual dexterity and hand–eye coordination.
- Dependability and punctuality.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, bend, kneel, and stand up to 8 hrs per day.
