Job Summary

Work Arrangement: Onsite Position

Schedule: Hours will vary between 10:30 AM-7 PM

  • Monday: 8 hours
  • Tuesday–Friday: 6 hours

The WIC Nutritionist helps pregnant women, new mothers, infants, and young children stay healthy through nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and access to healthy foods. This position provides nutrition counseling, determines WIC eligibility, develops care plans, and supports families in meeting their health and nutrition goals.

Duties & Responsibilities Nutrition Services
  • Conduct nutrition assessments for pregnant, postpartum, breastfeeding women, infants, and children.
  • Review height, weight, growth patterns, lab values, and health history.
  • Identify nutrition risks and determine eligibility according to WIC guidelines.
  • Develop individualized nutrition care plans.
  • Provide nutrition education and counseling based on participant needs.
  • Document all services accurately in the WIC computer system.
Breastfeeding Support
  • Provide breastfeeding education and encouragement.
  • Assist participants with common breastfeeding concerns.
  • Refer participants to Breastfeeding Peer Counselors, lactation consultants, and healthcare providers when appropriate.
  • Promote breastfeeding as the preferred infant feeding method.
Participant Services
  • Complete certifications, recertifications, and follow-up appointments.
  • Review and issue food benefits according to program guidelines.
  • Explain WIC foods, shopping procedures, and program requirements.
  • Provide referrals to medical, social service, and community resources.
  • Respond to participant questions by phone, video, and in-person appointments.
Administrative Duties
  • Maintain accurate participant records.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local WIC regulations.
  • Complete required reports and documentation.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and quality improvement activities.
  • Protect participant confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
Team Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with WIC staff, healthcare providers, and community partners.
  • Assist with clinic coverage and scheduling needs.
  • Support outreach and community education activities.
  • Help maintain a welcoming and respectful environment for all participants.
  • Perform other job-related duties as requested.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in dietetics, foods and nutrition, public health, or related area, granted by a U.S. regionally accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience in public health nutrition, clinical or outpatient dietetics required.

  • Maternal and child nutrition.
  • Breastfeeding support.
  • Motivational interviewing techniques.
  • Cultural competency and sensitivity.
  • Customer service and participant engagement.
  • Time management and organization.
Preferred
  • Previous WIC experience.
  • Bilingual (Spanish preferred).
  • Experience with breastfeeding support and maternal-child nutrition.
  • Dietetic internship / experience
