Join Our Convenient Care Team
Make real-time clinical decisions that change lives. Join a Convenient Care team that delivers fast, compassionate, high-quality walk-in and same-day care to the communities that need it most.
About the RoleAre you a Nurse Practitioner who thrives in a fast-paced, high-impact clinical environment? Thundermist Health Center is looking for a skilled, compassionate Nurse Practitioner to join our Convenient Care team. In this role, you'll deliver walk-in and same-day medical care to patients across our community — treating acute illness and injury, performing point-of-care testing and minor procedures, and making real-time clinical decisions as an autonomous, licensed provider.
If you're passionate about health equity, community health, and meeting patients where they are, this is the opportunity for you.
Clinical Care
- Provide comprehensive patient care including history, physical examination, anticipatory guidance, and management of acute and chronic illness
- Evaluate and treat acute, episodic illness and injury — lacerations, fractures, sprains, infections, and more
- Perform point-of-care testing (rapid strep, flu, COVID, urinalysis, STI, and more)
- Perform wound care, suturing, splinting, and minor surgical procedures
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests (X-ray, ultrasound, labs) and initiate treatment based on results
- Prescribe medications within scope of practice
- Triage patients and determine the appropriate level of care, escalation, or transfer
- Provide discharge instructions and coordinate appropriate follow-up care
- Maintain complete and accurate patient records with same-day documentation
- Supervise and mentor nurse practitioner students as assigned
Administrative & Quality
- Participate in peer chart review on a rotating basis
- Contribute to departmental and team meetings
- Meet patient throughput and productivity standards
- Maintain compliance with credentialing, re-credentialing, and privileging requirements
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives
You bring clinical expertise, sound judgment, and genuine compassion to every patient encounter. You're an autonomous provider who's equally comfortable suturing a laceration, interpreting an X-ray, and connecting with a patient who just needs to be heard.
- Active Rhode Island RN and NP licensure
- ANA certification in family medicine, internal medicine, women's health, or pediatrics
- Commitment to ongoing CEU and professional development
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills with proficiency in medical terminology
- A genuine commitment to patient-centered, high-quality care for diverse and underserved populations, with an authentic passion for health equity and community health
- Compassion, cultural humility, and a real investment in patient well-being — consistent with Thundermist's mission
This is a part-time (20 hours/week) position. The schedule includes every other weekend and shared holiday coverage. You'll provide care across our Woonsocket, West Warwick, and South Kingstown locations. Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m., and weekends 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. (including closing responsibilities).
