SUMMARY:
The Point of Care Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and managing all aspects of point-of-care testing (POCT) within the healthcare facility. This role involves overseeing the implementation, maintenance, and quality assurance of POCT programs to ensure accurate and timely testing results. The Point of Care Coordinator collaborates with various departments to optimize POCT processes, educate staff, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Program Management:
Develop and implement policies, procedures, and protocols for POCT programs.
Coordinate the selection, validation, and procurement of POCT devices and supplies.
Monitor inventory levels and ensure adequate stock of testing supplies.
Oversee the maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of POCT instruments.
Evaluate new technologies and methodologies for potential integration into existing POCT programs.
Establish quality control measures and proficiency testing programs for POCT.
Perform regular audits and inspections to assess compliance with regulatory standards.
Investigate and address any quality issues or deviations in POCT results.
Provide ongoing training and support to POCT operators to maintain proficiency and competency.
Liaise with laboratory personnel, clinicians, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate POCT services.
Collaborate with IT staff to integrate POCT data into electronic health records (EHR) systems.
Communicate with vendors and service providers to ensure timely maintenance and support for POCT devices.
Participate in interdisciplinary meetings to discuss POCT-related issues and initiatives.
Develop and deliver educational programs and materials on POCT principles, procedures, and best practices.
Provide hands‑on training and competency assessments for POCT operators.
Stay informed about regulatory changes and industry trends related to POCT and disseminate relevant information to staff.
Maintain accurate records of POCT activities, including test results, maintenance logs, and quality control data.
Generate reports on POCT performance metrics, compliance status, and quality improvement initiatives.
Prepare documentation for regulatory inspections and accreditation surveys.
Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field (required).
Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) preferred.
Previous experience in point-of-care testing or clinical laboratory management (desired).
Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards for POCT (TJC, CAP).
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced healthcare environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and electronic medical records systems.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The Point of Care Coordinator typically works in a clinical or hospital setting.
May require occasional evening or weekend hours to accommodate testing schedules or special projects.
May involve exposure to infectious agents and hazardous chemicals, requiring adherence to safety protocols.
