Polysomnography (PSG) Technician
DutiesPolysomnography (PSG) Technicians perform a wide range of standard, routine examinations including overnight sleep studies, MSLT (Multiple Sleep Latency Test), MWT (Maintenance of Wakefulness Test), and PAP (Positive Airway Pressure Titration). Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Prepares patients for nocturnal polysomnographic testing;
- Provides instruction to the patient;
- Performs the sleep study which includes adjusting oxygen dose and CPAP or BiPAP levels as necessary to maintain adequate oxygenation and ventilation during sleep;
- Monitors patients for adverse reactions, taking corrective action based on established policy and past experience and notifying the physician as required;
- Collects the data obtained from the sleep study;
- Stages sleep architecture and scores sleep abnormalities;
- Provides physicians with timely reports;
- Ensures that all machines and equipment are in compliance with all safety codes;
- Uses equipment required for patient care using hospital policies and procedures, including appropriate cleaning and disinfection of reusable medical equipment in accordance with manufacturer's guidelines; and
- Performs other duties as assigned.
This position is intermittent. The Providence VA Healthcare system operates 24/7 and shifts will vary based upon the needs of the facility.

PayCompetitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
