Job SummaryUnder general supervision is responsible for ensuring employees are properly and timely covered for the full range of benefits offered by the City of Providence.
Duties & Responsibilities- Assists and supports employees with complex inquiries related to benefits eligibility, claims, and coverage.
- Conducts benefits onboarding of all new employees and is responsible for the accurate processing of any changes resulting from annual open enrollment and qualifying life events.
- Updates human resources management system with all working rates and co-share changes.
- Tracks and processes payments for employees who are on leave of absence, worker’s compensation, or are otherwise separated from employment.
- Calculates and processes employee co-share reimbursements and adjustments as required.
- Attends and participates in employee benefit meetings as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- High school graduate and a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in position responsible for benefits management, human resources, payroll, billing or a closely related field, or a combination of education and experience that is substantially equivalent.
- Knowledge of word processing, Excel or similar spreadsheet, software, email, and calendar software commonly used in office environments at a level necessary to create simple formulas, collate data for useful analysis and track multiple processes.
- Must possess excellent verbal and interpersonal communications and customer service skills.
- Must be able to receive, understand and protect confidential information relating to employee status and benefits.
- Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job.
Upon Appointment:
- Completion of Intermediate Excel, Word, and Outlook within six (6) months and Advanced Excel, Word and Outlook within (9) months of appointment.
- Customer Service Training
- Sexual Harassment, Sensitivity, and Diversity Training
- Ability to gain a working knowledge of departmental technology and database systems through on-the-job training and usage within six (6) months.
Sustainment:
- Periodic training to maintain proficiency in department technology and database systems.
The term “limited” means that the successful candidate will perform the job for an undetermined length of time. The position may or may not become permanent.
